Alange

Alange is close to Mérida, in the province of Badajoz, and there are many traces of its history, such as the Roman-origin thermal baths in the Alange spa. The spa is one of its most important and best-known monuments, which probably dates back to the time before the Roman Empire.

When you come to Alange you have to visit the castle, which sits atop the Cerro de la Culebra hill and overlooks the entire Matachel River district. It was built by the Moors in the 9th century and today you can still see the keep. Other things not to be missed include the Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de los Milagros, the Culebra Castle, Casa de la Encomienda and the shrines of San Bartolomé and San Gregorio.

The Alange reservoir, which surrounds the hill on which the town lies, is one of the largest along the Guadiana River and is the perfect place for many types of sports, both on the water and in the surrounding area.
