Over one thousand experiences shape this innovative and pioneering project based on the attractions of nature.
With Alqueva Lake as its heart, the Alqueva Nature Theme Park is a unique and very popular tourist attraction for families who like outdoor activities and are interested in discovering the secrets of Extremadura's traditions in this beautiful setting.
This park has been planned to exploit all of the attractions of this area, which is rich in the natural resources of both Spain and Portugal. It is in the south-west of Badajoz province, very close to the city.
The attractions here are not those of a typical theme park: they are based on nature, water and culture. There are no doors, charges or opening times for this park, a part of which has been declared an SPA (Special Protection Area for Birds), where you can spot many bird species, hike along eco-river corridors, discover special flora, visit dehesa pastureland typical of Extremadura and experience exciting adventures on land, air and water.
The park has been created around the Alqueva lake on the Guadiana river, with 1200 kilometres of inland shoreline, and covering parts of Olivenza, Alconchel, Cheles, Táliga and Villanueva del Fresno. Here the Park is brought to life by water, forming the largest artificial lake in Western Europe and watering Spanish and Portuguese land.
This is the perfect place for water sports and fishing, exploring castles and Medieval villas, paragliding, taking a safari to test your skills as a photographer and enjoying unique food based on both Spanish and Portuguese traditions.
A world of sensations and adventures awaits everyone who visits the Alqueva Nature Theme Park for an unforgettable, magical experience.
