In one place, two cultures come together to promote their contemporary history
A noble house with a Portuguese air has been turned into the historic dwelling place for illustrious people from Cáceres from the past. Casa Pedrilla houses personal objects, documents, manuscripts, photographs – in short, memorabilia from personalities from the world of music, literature, research, philosophy and politics here in Cáceres.
There is also space for art in this house built for the Martín Pedrilla Family on the site of an old 16th-century wash house. Its collection brings together artists from the 19th and 20th centuries, in contrast to those exhibited in an adjacent house where the Guayasamín House-Museum is located. This began as a bridge between Ecuador and Cáceres and the collections were compiled by the Ecuadoran painter it is named after: Oswaldo Guayasamín. Works by this painter and handicraft creations from his Foundation's workshop are also exhibited.
Take a close look at the Guayasamín House-Museum. Yes, it's special: it's a restored old oil press.
