Legend accompanies this castle in the province of Badajoz, built by the Order of Santiago between the 13th and 16th centuries.
The irregularly shaped Segura de León Castle in the province of Badajoz was built by the Order of Santiago between the 13th and 16th centuries and became the abode of the Encomienda Mayor de León. In spite of its deteriorated condition, some parts of the walls still remain, as well as traces of a moat in front of the main gate and the towers on the main facade: the tower of the mayors and that of Miramontes.
In the interior you will find a chapel with a ribbed vault, a dungeon and several rooms, such as the one known as Garcilaso's room. But without doubt the most prominent element is the keep which was built at the same time as the archway and which is the guardian of a legend about a beautiful maiden who was Lady and Mistress of this historic castle. -
