Also known as the May Crosses, this event, declared to be a Festivity of Tourist Interest in Extremadura, is held on 3 May in Feria.
The feast of the Santa Cruz is an important celebration in Feria. It originates in a popular tradition in which everyone takes part, as testified to by the fact that the women and children make crosses to take them to the parish church where they will be on show on 2 and 3 May, thus giving the rise to the essence of the celebration.
But that is not all, given that this fiesta also traditionally stages the handing-over, in which the search for the True Cross by Saint Helena, the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine, is staged, not to mention the procession of flower-adorned crosses on the morning of the 3 May. A real feast for the senses and not to be missed. -
