The building that houses this museum of customs is a manor house that belonged to the Count of Campos de Orellana
The variety of objects and their excellent state of preservation, together with the spectacular architecture, makes the Don Benito Ethnographic Museum one of the best of its kind. The building which dates from the late 19th/early 20th century is a manor house which belonged to the Dukes of Orellana and is classed as a protected building.
As for the contents, all the objects date from the preindustrial period which goes from the end of the 19th to the middle of the 20th century. To make your visit easier the elements on display are divided into 31 rooms arranged according to subject matter or task. So you will find rooms dedicated to barbering, printing, tailoring and imported groceries, amongst others.
One peculiarity of this display is that all the tools, clothes, utensils, etc. belong to a regional society based on agriculture and animal husbandry with a large number of journeymen, craftsmen and tradesmen together with bourgeois large landholders and liberal professionals.
Before you go you must visit the exhibition on the Don Benito sculptor, Pedro Torre-Isunza.
