This fiesta of tourist interest has its origin in a legend that envelops a celebration, in which the entire Badajoz town of Peñalsordo takes part, with symbolism.
This celebration has its origin in a legend that tells of how General Cachafre managed to take Capilla castle from the Moors, after entrusting his fate to the Most Holy Sacrament and promising to found a brotherhood if he achieved his difficult enterprise.
The General ordered that torches be tied to a large number of rams, thus simulating an army that made the castle defenders flee. He subsequently fulfilled his promise and found the brotherhood, which still exists today.
Even today, every June, the feat is commemorated on the Saturday afternoon before the Octava del Corpus, by means of a parade around the streets of Peñalsordo.
On the Sunday, the day of the Octava, riders mount on horses and re-stage the attack on the castle.
