In Campanario, on the shores of the Orellana Reservoir, the "Costa Alegre" bathing area is located, which has the Blue Flag distinction.
Orellana Reservoir is one of the few wetlands in Extremadura that are included on the list of wetlands classed as being of international importance. The shores of the reservoir touch the municipal areas of Orellana la Vieja, Orellana de la Sierra, Acedera, Navalvillar de Pela, Casas de Don Pedro, Talarrubias, Puebla de Alcocer, Esparragosa de Lares and Campanario.
The reservoir is also very popular for bird watching. Together with the nearby Sierra de Pela mountains, it forms a Special Protection Areas for Birds (SPA). It is home to many species of birds, including griffon vultures, golden eagles, hen harriers, Montagu's harriers and black storks. It also has lots of other wildlife, such as otters, badgers and natterjack toads. -
