This protected area boasts many rivers a streams.
Straddling the provinces of Cáceres and Badajoz and nestled between the municipalities of Acedera, Logrosán and Navalvillar de Pela, the Vegas Del Ruecas, Cubilar Y Moheda Alta Special Protection Area for Birds is home to many rivers and streams as well as a lake known as La Copa, which attracts aquatic birdlife of international importance according to the criteria of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. In its waters you can find otters and various kinds of fish including Iberian barbel, Iberian nase and Squalius alburnoides.
Oak, broom and typical riverside plants create an ideal environment for horseshoe bats, mouse-eared bats and European pond turtles, as well as birds of prey such as Montagu's harriers and lesser kestrels in the mating season, flocks of great bustards and, in winter, large numbers of common cranes. In fact, every year the periurban park of Moheda Alta hosts the Extremadura Crane Festival. -
