Its impressive façade captures the attention and awakens the interest of any visitor to Trujillo.
In the town of Trujillo, we find this impressive Renaissance building, from the 16th century, built by the master of masonry Sancho de Cabrera, by order of Hernando Pizarro and his wife and at the wish of Francisco Pizarro.
This palace, the residence of relatives of Francisco Pizarro, the explorer of Peru, owes its name to the title given to the Pizarro family, Marqueses de la Conquista, in gratitude for their outstanding work in taking Peru.
Five semi-circular arches over thick pillars that decorate the first floor, of a total of three, stand out on the façade. The windows are protected by wrought iron railings with metal consoles decorated with tondos showing human faces and the Pizarro coat of arms, repeated throughout the façade in stone or iron.
The façade is crowned by a cornice showing twelve statues carrying musical instruments. One of the elements that attracts most attention on the exterior of this building is the corner balcony, due to its beauty and its numerous decorative motifs.
You can enjoy the sight of its spectacular façade, but you can also visit its interior, where there are staircases with coffering, rooms with artistic coffered ceilings, chimneys with masonry work and spiral staircases. -
