  • Travel down the gorge of Arroyomolinos and the slopes of the Sierra de Montánchez in search of these hydraulic giants where millers toiled throughout history.

A wide range of mills, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, are preserved in the municipalities of Arroyomolinos and Montánchez.

They are in an extremely good state of repair, and seen as an unparalleled example of native architecture related to the organisation of a crucial work process in Spain that remained in use until the mid-20th century.

The origin of these mills that comprise the monument lies in Roman times, although it is true that the most recent ones date back to the 19th century.

If you would like to enjoy both the scenery and these architectural beauties, your best option is to set off on one of the routes that run through Arroyomolinos and Montánchez and round off the experience by spending the night in one of the guest rooms or grinding rooms of a windmill now converted into a hostel. An unforgettable experience indeed.
