The Magasca Special Protection Area (SPA) for Birds, which has extensive plains and numerous waterways, such as the Magasca and Magasquilla rivers, encompasses the municipalities of La Cumbre, Santa Marta de Magasca and Trujillo, in the province of Cáceres.

Its landscapes include large pseudo-steppe areas with grasses, surrounded by dehesa pastureland and riverbanks lined with lush vegetation, home to such reptiles as the Spanish pond turtle as well as fish including linnets, Chondrostoma lemmingii and Squalius alburnoides. You can also find birds such as Egyptian vultures, golden eagles, short-toed eagles and Montagu's harriers. The endangered black stork also inhabits these lands, along with flocks of great bustards.
